Elementary School - Cycle I

Colégio Múltiplo values the commitment to excellence in education and training of our students. Elementary School has a special infrastructure, qualified teaching staff, 5 to 9 English classes per week, and the Pitágoras System material, used as a content base. This system provides both an individual and group performance comparison of our students to other schools that also use it.

Our principles are:

1st and 2nd Grades

In the first two years of Elementary School, the student is challenged to: understand and analyze the concepts of their surroundings, develop logical thinking, understand and exercise good social interaction, explore basic mathematical concepts and master the written codes in order to communicate efficiently and effectively.

Literacy is the most important step in the process of intellectual and individual development of a child, so classrooms must always have novelties to stimulate students. Each student´s learning pace must be respected and stimulated with activities that are consistent with their individual reality.

The teachers foster the acquisition of reading and writing skills through the written language psychogenesis, substantiated by Emilia Ferreiro. They rely on rich teaching alphabetic materials, aiming to link sounds to letters, as well as names of people and objects related to the context of the child. The material is a key element to the development of hypotheses in children writing. Through teacher's mediation, children perform word formation exercises based on the connection between sounds and letters.

3rd to 5th Grades

At this stage, the student is encouraged, through challenging proposals mediated by the teacher, to create hypotheses, questions, form opinions and validate them on various subjects and contents related to their reality.

English Schedule / Hours

Daily English classes are part of our students’ routines. There are 9 immersion classes per week, in which students go through the many topics covered in other subjects and their daily lives, in order to practice, improve and become fluent in the second language.
